World Up In Smoke

One day you go off to make an ordinary academic presentation in a big city, and the next day the president declares a national emergency. Your car with its full tank of gas is useless, airports are closed, public transportation is overbooked, communications are jammed, public order is breaking down, and someone is stalking you. What do you do? Who can you trust? In this situation, Professor Elaine Zeiss just wants to find a way to get home. What she doesn't know is that home is no longer where she left it, and possibly her life has changed forever.

Now, what can an author do to get the professor out of this wretched mess in one piece?
